Greetings fellow Gettysburg ‘88 players:
Here are most of the initial pairings for Rounds 1 & 2 of BPA PBEM Championship III. I say most because I am still chasing down a couple of outstanding Boardgame Players Association dues payments. I’m not going to hold everybody up any more, though. I’m expecting everybody to eventually pay; if not, there may be a forfeit or 2. We shattered all previous participation marks with 36 entrants. That’s more than any Gettysburg ‘88 tourney, FTF, PBM, or PBEM, on record. The defending champion gets seed #1 and everybody else is seeded by AREA rating. If you didn’t have an AREA rating yet, you got a 5000 rating. The 5000-rated players are seeded in the order in which they entered the tournament. 36 players means that there are 4 games in round 1 and seeds 1-28 get byes. Seeds 5-28 proceed directly to Round 2 and can begin their games now. Seeds 1-4 must await the results of Round 1 before they can begin their 2nd round games. By the way, although I use AREA-ratings as an objective way to
seed the matches, be advised that in past tourneys, seedings have proven to be a poor predictor of outcomes.

Here are a few reminders.

  1. The complete format is on the tournament website http://www.wargameacademy.org/G88/2009-PBEM/index.html Thanks again to Bill Thomson for creating and maintaining it.
  2. Please take a minute to read the Format, the Rules Clarifications, and Terrain Clarifications on that site. No e-mails complaining that you didn’t realize zones of control don’t lock!
  3. Sides are selected by the lower seeded player announcing his or her side preference to the higher seeded player. The higher-seeded player can either accept the other side or make a bid for the preferred side, per the Format.
  4. Rounds will last 4 months.
  5. Please send me the sides you are playing and the bid, if any.
