Must complete 4 rounds to place in the first three places.
Players may play two round early GM approval. (I will spend most of the
week in teh Grognard room else Cell 817-501-2978).
Round not played are credited as losses.
First round pairings are randomly determined.
For each additional game played, they may drop a loss (loss remains for
tiebreaker purposes).
Subsequent round pairings are by tournament win-loss record. (Example,
1 vs 4; 2 vs 3 by AREA). Player may not play the same player twice, nor play
the same scenario twice.
To determine rankings in cases of identical records; use breakers used:
Best Record
By head-head if two, else by most wins by opponents, then AREA rating.
Strength Total number of wins of your defeated opponent
Seeding by AREA rating as of June 15, 2006.
PLC COMPETITION NOTES
To be eligible to win this plaque, your PLC must play the first 4 rounds
of combat.
Plus are substituted for the scenario 8-1 leader in the first scenario.
In subsequent rounds, the PLC replaces a scenario leader of the same rank.
If no leader of the PLC rank is present in the scenario, adjustments in both
players OOB for a neutral impact to include PLCs.
PLC start at 8-1 status +0 élan.
At the conclusion of a round, PLC with 8+ élan spends 8 élan
and is promoted one level. A PLC can only be promoted one level per round.
Excess elan is retained.
If you PLC is killed, it is replaced in the next round with an 8-1 but
are no longer eligible for advancement as part of the PLC competition.
Track PLC performance using the SQLA Elan Chart. Actions of merit not listed
can be appealed to the PLC Czar.
It is the player’s responsibility to maintain their PLC individual
performance charts performance and update the GM after each round.
The surviving PLC surviving its first four scenarios with the highest net
élan will earn the Best PLC Plaque.
Whoever kills SGT Sharp (2007 PLC winner) in SGT Sharp’s first four
matches is awarded the Pollard Memorial Plaque.
EVENT FORMAT
This event is a four round, Swiss format.
Those competing for the first three places should plan on participating
in all four rounds. Other places will be determined based on event record
and AREA rankings.
The player pairings of the first round will be determined randomly. Beginning
on the second round, players will be paired based on event record to date.
Players may play up to two rounds prior to Saturday August 9 with GM notification.
This is to accommodate players with competing commitments and availability
prior to the official event.
Time limits will be enforced on all play on Saturday 9 -10. Matches not
completed in the time limits will be adjudicated to achieve a binding result.
The GM will convene a player panel of veteran players; the impacted players
do not participate in the decision process. The sole criteria for making a
decision is the simple question to each panel member; “Given the situation
and turn number, which side would you prefer to inherit to maximize your chance
of victory?”
All games will be considered AREA rated (AREA is a player rating service
for tournament play).
SELECTED SCENARIOS
Scenario selection is a GM challenge. Some players ‘play to play’
while some play to win the championship crown. Additional considerations are
some players are rusty regarding the play mechanics; some are just slow in
execution.
Two scenarios tracks have been defined to accommodate all participants.
Faster playing veteran players are encouraged to use the more challenging
scenarios, as these will highlight player ability rather than luck in determining
the victory. Slower player (they know who they are) should migrate to the
low-density scenarios to which they have a greater likelihood of finishing
the scenario. A single track exists for COD and GIA play for scenario recommendations
but players at these levels may play a scenario of mutual preference if it
can be decided upon.
Each round will have selected scenarios from each level of play in the Squad
Leader system, up to GI: Anvil of Victory. To determine which level of play,
both players will agree upon the level for each round. If the level of play
cannot be agreed, then the Squad Leader scenario for that round will be played.
Once the level of play is determined, players will bid for sides. Should
both players select the same side, an auction style bid will ensue to argument
one sides force per SSR, until one player agrees to play that side.
SIDE SELECTION PROCEDURE: Each player takes one marker of each nationality
and simultaneously reveals their choice of side. If opposing sides are selected,
those sides are assigned. If the same side is chosen, the players bid for
side with the lower rated (seed) player bidding first. Bids may start at '0'
and progress in whole numbers only. The bid is the number of dominate AT START
squads to be added to the opposing side. The bid continues until one player
accepts the opposing side whose force is augmented with that bid.
Copies of these scenarios will be available at the tournament. Due to the
nature of some of these scenarios, certain adjustments or rules clarifications
have been added. Only the following scenarios are allowed for tournament play.
(Exception: Those playing tournament rounds in advance may select any scenario
they can agree upon if time constraints are not a factor). Extra boards will
be provided for use of WG scenarios as they typically use boards not in the
SQL/COI board set. Scenarios are subject to change as the GM’s discretion.
The German Win-Loss record of each scenario from the SLllist Scenario Record
is provided as reference.
RULES
Rules to the appropriate level of the scenario played will be in force subject
to Special Scenarios Rules (SSR).
These will be augmented the by SQLA Compiled Question & Answers (2006
edition) and the SQLA Rule Conventions. Both of these documents will be available
for player review during the week and can be found on the SQLA website (www.wargameacademy.org/SQLA/documents)
The GM will act as the Rules Czar and if called upon, the decision will
be considered final.
